When Animaux en Péril got the call about a pony experiencing neglect, they moved in. They weren’t sure what they would find, but what awaited them was heartbreaking. This small pony had such overgrown hooves that it could barely walk. Ponies should have hooves with some nail for protection. However, this one and many others don’t get proper care, and the nails are allowed to grow way too long. There was over 540-degree rotation on this poor pony’s nails, making it nearly impossible for him to walk.
Ponies Need to Have Their Nails Trimmed
Horses and ponies need to have the hooves trimmed periodically. Most of the time, it is done every six to 10 weeks, but this depends on how fast the nails grow. Polly hadn’t had his nails trimmed in over 10 years. You can easily see that Polly’s hooves had curled in on themselves many times because of the mistreatment. Only the owner knew about the pony’s despair because he was hidden at the back of the property so that no one could find him.
