The Golden Bikini Controversy
At the time that Return of the Jedi was released, the famous golden bikini scene was highly controversial. The controversy never actually died out, and it is still considered scandalous and overly sexualized by many people. Carrie Fisher, however, had the perfect response to critics of the scene. For her part, Fisher said that the bikini was “what supermodels will eventually wear in the seventh ring of Hell.” She admitted that she hated wearing the bikini, but that killing Jabba the Hutt was her favorite part of her role.
Her Perfect Response
When a concerned father complained about a toy featuring Fisher from the famous scene, her reply was a work of elegance, ‘What am I going to tell my kid about why she’s in that outfit?’ Tell them that a giant slug captured me and forced me to wear that stupid outfit, and then I killed him because I didn’t like it. And then I took it off. Backstage.” Bravo, Carrie, bravo.
