The Sahara May Hold Even More Secrets
Thanks to advancements in satellite technology, we also now know that the Sahara Desert was once a lush, green region filled with rivers and lakes. While it is hard to picture today, the Sahara may have been green as recently as 5000 years ago. Combine this with the fact that human civilizations almost always arise around rivers, and it forces you to wonder what could be hiding underneath the Sahara Desert. Could there be civilizations that predate the Egyptians?
Erosion on the Sphinx
In addition to satellite imagery showing where water once flowed across Africa, there is also evidence that the Sphinx was weathered by prolonged and consistent rainfall for several years after it was built. Over time the effects of this erosion almost disappeared, meaning that the rain abruptly stopped. Could the Ancient Egyptians have been the remnants of an extinct civilization? The more evidence we find, the more it seems that they may have been.
